The dreaded cold!

I almost made it this year without getting sick, but alas the last few days have been me curled up in bed trying to get rid of this nastiness.

One thing I have been drinking by the gallon is lemon honey tea.  I saw the idea last week on pinterest and with some tweaking it has worked out great.

Cut 1/2 a lemon in to small pieces and place into a mason jar.  Cover with honey and let it sit. I only was able to it sit for a week and it worked out pretty well.

Add 1 teaspoon plus some lemon to a mug and add hot water. It feels amazing on a sore throat.

I also made a large batch of hot and sour soup right as I got sick. This tasted amazing!

8 oz sliced mushroom, I like a mix of shiitake and baby portabella
2 large carrots sliced
5 tablespoons soy sauce
5 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 (8 oz) container firm tofu cut into 1/4 inch strips
1/4 cup corn starch
1 and 1/2 quarts vegetable broth
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp group white pepper
1/4 a package of snap peas halved
1/4 a nappa cabbage thinly sliced.
chili oil
sesame oil
Green onion

Mix together soy sauce, vinegar and 1/2 the cornstarch in a small bowl. Add the tofu and let it sit off to the side.

Bring the broth, mushrooms and carrots to a boil in a large pot.  Reduce to medium heat and simmer 5 min. Season with peppers.

Slowly mix in remaining cornstarch until it begins to thicken.  Then add  bowl of tofu and sauce.

Mix in fresh veggies.

Allow to simmer for about a min just until the cabbage wilts.

Serve in bowls and garnish with chili oil, sesame oil, and green onion.
